The Power of Touch Branding. Are Offline Connections Making A Comeback?

Sun, Nov 15, 2009

In today’s emailing, blogging, and texting world, it is easy to forget the importance of making real life connections. Don’t let the convenience of communicating from a distance keep you from sharing the personal touch that is so critical to your brand.  As more people start backing away from face to face meetings and telephone conversations, you can set yourself apart by making “touch branding” an important part of your life.

Touch Branding is the basic notion of “doing good, by doing good.”
It’s a way of building up your personal brand by touching lives and showing how much you value others. There are great rewards that come from investing in real relationships, and from taking time to genuinely care about those whose support you need. People are naturally programmed to support those who sincerely have their best interest in mind. So, stop trying to make quick sales, and really invest in quality relationships that will be mutually beneficial for years to come.

Step away from your computer and make the connections that matter most. It’s not about how many people you know. It’s about the quality of the relationships you have. At the end of the day, how many people will vouch for you? How many of them will use their podium to tell the world how great you are? Do they know you well enough to recommend you without hesitation? And, are they confident that you have their best interests in mind?

If you answered “No” to any of those questions, then it’s time to make touch branding an integral part of your personal brand.

Don’t forsake the power of personal connections. It doesn’t have to be complex. Just look for ways to go above and beyond your competitors, to show your audience that you care about what’s important to them. Instead of emailing all the time, pick up the phone and call. Instead of texting back and forth, invite them to chat over lunch. When you’re too busy to catch up, send a greeting card telling them they’re in your thoughts.

If you go out of your way to extend the personal touch to those around you, you will build an army of ambassadors who will passionately promote your brand and recruit others to experience all that you have to offer. Make touch branding an integral part of your personal brand.
